If your AC stops cooling, start with a diagnosis. A warm house or an older system does not, by itself, tell you whether replacement is the right choice. Coppell homeowners can make a clearer decision by comparing the repair, the system’s condition, and the full cost of a new installation.
Fall on the calendar doesn’t always mean cooler weather

Separate a repair problem from an airflow problem

Compare dollars, not just monthly payments
Request a written repair price and a written replacement quote. Compare what each includes: equipment, labor, controls, duct changes, permits, and warranty coverage. If financing is involved, ask for the rate, fees, length of the agreement, and total payments. A smaller monthly payment does not automatically mean a lower total cost.
For example, a lower repair bill may make sense when it resolves an isolated problem in a system that otherwise serves the home well. Repeated breakdowns or an expensive repair on worn equipment may justify comparing replacement. These are questions to assess with your technician, not a rule that every system of a certain age must go.

A higher electricity bill needs context
Compare your electricity use in kilowatt-hours as well as the dollar amount. Check the billing period, the rate on your plan, and how much cooling your household needed. A higher bill is a useful clue, but it cannot identify a failed HVAC part. Bring recent bills to a replacement consultation if energy use is one of your concerns.
Ask the right questions about a new system
Ask how the proposed capacity fits your home, whether the airflow and ducts have been assessed, and which indoor and outdoor components are included.
