PRIME AC & HEAT / DFW METROPLEX
Efficiency Is A Useful Comparison, Not A Bill Guarantee.
Seasonal cooling efficiency compares cooling output with electricity use under a defined test. A higher rating means greater tested efficiency when comparing the same rating method.
Compare The Same Kind Of Rating.
SEER and SEER2 use different testing procedures. Do not treat the numbers as interchangeable. Ask for the rating of the exact matched indoor and outdoor equipment in your quote.
Read The Manufacturer’s Efficiency GuideKeep The Rating With The Equipment Record.
Ask for the proposed outdoor unit and indoor coil or air-handler model numbers, the applicable SEER2 rating and the AHRI Certified Reference Number for the matched system. Keep that certificate with your written quote so you can compare complete equipment combinations.
- Outdoor unit model and proposed capacity.
- Indoor coil or air-handler model, including equipment you will retain.
- Matched-system rating and AHRI Certified Reference Number.
Your Home Affects The Result.
Ductwork, airflow, installation, weather, thermostat settings and electricity rates all affect real operating cost. A rating alone cannot tell you what your next bill will be.

Your Questions, Answered
SEER and SEER2 use different test procedures. Compare proposals using the same rating method and the exact equipment combination. A number from the older method should not be treated as the same SEER2 value.
Read The SEER2 Requirements GuideIt identifies a certified indoor and outdoor equipment combination and its performance ratings. Ask for the reference number for the configuration in your quote, including any indoor equipment you plan to keep. The certificate does not verify the workmanship at your home.
Review AHRI Matched-System GuidanceNo. The rating is a tested efficiency comparison. Your home, ductwork, installation, weather, thermostat settings and electricity rate affect actual energy use and cost. Compare the full installation as well as the equipment rating.
Compare the proposed indoor and outdoor model numbers, the matched-system SEER2 rating and the AHRI Certified Reference Number. Also compare the installation scope and full written price. If a heat pump is proposed, review its separate HSPF2 heating rating and backup-heat arrangement.
